A volcanic bank rising towards the surface with schools of mobula rays passing over it in late summer, plus amberjack, barracuda and the occasional whale shark or manta in a good year. The Azores are Atlantic pelagic diving, not reef diving. The Sabrina bank is what is left of an island that rose out of the sea in an eruption in 1811, was claimed for Britain by a Royal Navy captain who named it Sabrina, and washed away within months before the diplomatic argument could be settled. Anchorage: No anchorage. This is a day objective from Ponta Delgada. Hazards: Exposed Atlantic bank with real current and swell. Weather-dependent, and the trip is cancelled more often than it runs.
