Geothermal vents releasing streams of warm bubbles through the sand and coral, so you swim through a rising curtain of champagne with the water noticeably warm against your legs. Seahorses, frogfish, flying gurnards and juvenile reef fish. There is nowhere else in the Caribbean like it. Dominica sits on an active volcanic arc with nine potentially active volcanoes, the highest concentration on earth per square mile. The vents are the sea-level expression of the same system that boils the island's famous Boiling Lake. The marine reserve was established with local fisher co-management in the 1990s. Anchorage: Anchor/moor in the Soufriere-Scotts Head reserve; deep water close inshore. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
