A rock cleft where each Atlantic swell explodes into a foaming pool you can sit in, a salt pond full of waders on the walk over, and one of the more sheltered anchorages on an island otherwise famous for its bars. Jost Van Dyke has around three hundred residents and a wildly outsized reputation, built on Foxy's and the Soggy Dollar. The east end, where this anchorage is, is the quiet half. Anchorage: Anchor off Diamond Cay at the east end of Jost Van Dyke and walk ten minutes across the salt pond to the pool. Sheltered anchorage, mangrove and bird life, and a bar at each end of the day. Hazards: The Bubbly Pool works because Atlantic swell funnels into a rock cleft. In big swell it is genuinely dangerous, people have been hurt. Look before you get in.
