The clearest water on Catalina over a bright sand bottom, which is what makes it green rather than blue, with kelp forest on both headlands and Indian Rock standing off the western point. Named for the colour, and used by the island's early camps and then by the Scouts, whose camp still sits above the beach. The bay's water clarity made it one of the first places Californian free divers came to in the 1950s. Anchorage: Anchor on the sand in 8-15m and swing clear of the kelp. Not a night to sit through a northerly; Isthmus Cove or Catalina Harbor is the move. Hazards: Rock and kelp on both sides of the sand patch, so pick the drop carefully. Exposed if the wind goes into the north.
