Shallow turquoise water on a sandbar with Fisher Island's mansions on one side, the Miami skyline behind and cruise ships sliding past through Government Cut a few hundred metres away. Pure Miami boating theatre, the contrast of standing in knee-deep water while a 300m ship passes is the whole appeal. Fisher Island was cut off from Miami Beach in 1905 when Government Cut was dredged, then swapped to Carl Fisher in 1925 for a yacht. It has no road access at all, everything arrives by ferry or boat, and became one of the wealthiest zip codes in America. The sandbar is the only part of it the public can reach. Anchorage: Anchor on the sand off the bar in 2-3m. Approach from Government Cut following the marked channels, Biscayne Bay averages only 2-3m outside the dredged cuts. Strong tidal set through the Cut. Hazards: Approach only via Government Cut and the marked channels, the bay outside them shoals fast. Government Cut carries constant cruise-ship and cargo traffic and has a poor accident record; keep well clear of the shipping channel.
