Beaches with no footprints, the stone foundations of a Loyalist plantation on the ridge, hutia, the Bahamas' only native land mammal, reintroduced on the cay, and the shallow bank going pale green to the horizon. Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution tried to farm cotton on these cays with enslaved labour; the soil failed within a generation and the ruins are all that is left. The park was established in 1958, the first of its kind anywhere. Anchorage: Three beaches on the west side with sand holding, inside the oldest land-and-sea park in the world. Quieter than Warderick Wells because there is no office, no mooring field and no wifi. Hazards: No-take park, no fishing, no conching, no shelling, and it is enforced.
