The most photographed beach on earth, and it earns it to 750-million-year-old pink granite boulders worn into organic curves, standing in shallow water the colour of gin, with palms leaning over white sand. The reef keeps the water flat as a pool. Aldabra and Cosmoledo lie far south for the real expedition prize. Seychelles granite is continental crust left behind when Gondwana broke up, these are the only mid-ocean granitic islands in the world, which is why they look nothing like a volcanic atoll. La Digue still runs largely on bicycles and ox-carts. The Seychelles protected 30% of its waters in a 2018 debt-for-nature swap. Anchorage: Exposed to the south-east trades; La Passe on the north side is the sheltered side. Anchoring restricted in marine park zones. Hazards: Anchoring restricted in marine park zones.
