A karst-walled lake where you descend through a razor-sharp thermocline, the water goes from 28°C to 38°C in a few centimetres and shimmers like a heat haze. Sheer rock walls, sculpted limestone formations, and almost no fish, it is a geology dive, and one of the most surreal sensations in diving. Named for a single large barracuda skeleton found on the bottom. The lake sits inside the ancestral domain of the Tagbanua people, who hold legal title to Coron Island's lakes and control access, a rare case of indigenous ownership governing a world-class dive site. Anchorage: Anchor in Coron Bay off the karst cliffs; a short tender ride and a climb over a rock stair to the lake. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
