The image people picture when they say 'Mediterranean', white sand, pine forest to the water's edge, and water so clear that anchored boats appear to float above their own shadows. Macarelleta next door is smaller and better. Menorca has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1993, which is why its south coast has pine woods instead of hotels. The Camí de Cavalls, a 185km 14th-century coastal bridle path, still rings the island, walkable from every cove. Anchorage: Day anchorage, open to the south, untenable in a southerly. Buoy fields and anchoring bans protect the posidonia in places. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
