Destroyers, ore carriers and supply ships sunk within days of each other in April 1940, lying in cold clear fjord water, one of the densest single-battle wreck fields anywhere, and almost never dived compared with Scapa Flow. Narvik shipped Swedish iron ore to Germany, which is why both sides went for it in April 1940. Two naval battles in the fjord destroyed ten German destroyers and a U-boat along with British and Norwegian ships. Many of the wrecks are war graves and are treated as such. Anchorage: Narvik is a deep ice-free harbour at the head of a 40nm fjord, and the Lofoten wall lies across the entrance. Hazards: These are war graves with men still aboard. Cold, dark, deep, and dived only with operators who observe the restrictions.
