Turquoise so saturated it looks tinted, pine forest running down to the waterline, and paragliders spiralling off the 1,960m Babadağ above Ölüdeniz. Butterfly Valley is a canyon with a beach at its mouth reachable only by boat. The Twelve Islands offer a different empty cove every night. This is the Lycian coast, Roman and Byzantine ruins line the shore, including the sunken city of Kekova. Ölüdeniz means 'dead sea' for its stillness. The Göcek gulfs became the heart of the Turkish gulet trade and remain one of the best-value cruising grounds in the Med. Anchorage: Superb, the Göcek/Fethiye gulfs offer dozens of pine-ringed all-weather anchorages. Ölüdeniz lagoon itself is a protected nature park closed to yachts. Hazards: Ölüdeniz lagoon itself is a protected nature park closed to yachts.
