White volcanic rock cut into caves and arches, water that reads mint green over sand, and, with luck and distance, a Mediterranean monk seal, of which only a few hundred remain. Polyaigos means many goats, and goats are all it has ever supported. Its isolation is why the monk seal survives here; the species is one of the rarest marine mammals in the world. Anchorage: An uninhabited island of white rock and green water with a choice of bays, pick the one on the lee side. This is Mediterranean monk seal habitat, one of the strongholds in the Cyclades, so keep off the caves and beaches they use. Hazards: The meltemi funnels between Milos and Kimolos and can blow for days; there is no shelter ashore and no water.
