Turtles and rays over seagrass, a small cay you can swim around with coral on its north side, and the ruins of the Annaberg sugar mill on the hill behind the bay. Two thirds of St John is national park, donated by Laurance Rockefeller in 1956, which is why its bays are moored rather than built on. The Annaberg plantation above the anchorage is the physical record of the sugar-and-slavery economy that preceded it. Anchorage: Pick up one of the 19 moorings, there is no anchoring, to protect the seagrass. Waterlemon is the closest USVI anchorage to the west end of Tortola, which makes it the natural first or last stop of a Virgins charter. Hazards: Current runs through the Narrows between the cay and shore, and the only approach is round the west end of Waterlemon Cay.
