The rusted bow and masts of a four-masted steel barque standing out of the sand where she came ashore, uncovered at low water and awash at high, on the beach just inside the mouth of the Columbia. A British steel barque that ran aground in October 1906 while waiting for a pilot to take her over the Columbia bar; every one of her crew was taken off alive. She has been corroding in the sand ever since, and is the most accessible of the many wrecks that earned this coast the name Graveyard of the Pacific. Anchorage: Nothing here. Cruising boats that cross the bar go up to Astoria or Hammond; the wreck is reached from the land. Hazards: The Columbia River bar, three miles north, is one of the most dangerous in the world and has taken hundreds of vessels. Do not attempt it without local knowledge, the right conditions and a call to the Coast Guard. On the beach, watch the tide and the logs.
