Croatia's most famous beach, a pebble spit that projects half a kilometre into the Hvar channel and physically changes shape and direction with the currents and wind. Pine forest to the waterline, and 40 metres of visibility in the channel. The spit is a natural tombolo built by longshore drift, and it has been measurably moving for as long as records exist, old postcards show it pointing a different way. Brač's white limestone was quarried for Diocletian's Palace in Split and, by local tradition, for the White House. Anchorage: Anchor either side of the spit depending on the wind, a rare anchorage where the land gives you a choice. Hazards: Exposed to the maestral in the afternoon; the point is open to swell.
