The broken stern half of a WWII destroyer escort in 8m, with a 3-inch gun mount still identifiable, hull plating and machinery spread on sand. Nurse sharks under the plates, huge barracuda and permit. USS Amesbury escorted convoys and supported the D-Day landings. Sold for scrap and converted for an intended shrimp-boat mooring, she grounded in 1962 and was blown up as a hazard to navigation, which is why only the stern survives. Locally known as Alexander's Wreck after the man who bought her. Anchorage: Mooring buoys; Key West Bight as base. Hazards: Broken and sharp; surge in shallow water.
