Turtles over the grass, coral heads on the cove's edges, and one of the few anchorages in the world where dinner arrives by dinghy from a boat that only sells pizza. The St James islands sit in Pillsbury Sound between St Thomas and St John, the ferry and charter crossroads of the US Virgins. The cove has been the shelter of choice on this coast since long before the charter fleet existed. Anchorage: A dependable lee tucked behind Great St James, a couple of miles from Red Hook, and the standard overnight for boats not making the crossing to the BVI. There is a floating pizza boat anchored in the cove, which tells you how much traffic it takes. Hazards: Anchor clear of coral patches; the cove gets busy and wakes come through.
