The deepest blue hole in the ocean, 202m, and you can stand on the sand and take two steps into it. A bowl 25m across at the surface opening into a 100m-wide cavern below. The colour change from white sand to bottomless indigo is genuinely unnerving. Snorkellers get the whole effect on one breath. The world capital of competitive freediving, William Trubridge set multiple world records here, including 102m unassisted, and the annual Vertical Blue competition has produced dozens of world records since 2008. Named after a local landowner. Sheltered from wind and current, which is exactly why the records happen here. Anchorage: Anchor in Clarence Town harbour; the hole is a short tender or road hop and you can wade in from the beach. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
