The broken hull of a wartime Liberty ship lying in about 20m, her plates and machinery colonised by Atlantic life, with barracuda, dusky grouper and rays around her, close enough inshore to be a first Azorean dive. The Dori was a US Liberty ship that took part in the Normandy landings before being sold on. She was wrecked off São Miguel in 1964. The Azores were the mid-Atlantic hinge of both world wars, and the seabed shows it. Anchorage: Ponta Delgada is the main Azorean harbour and a standard mid-Atlantic crossing stop. Hazards: Atlantic swell can close the site; the wreck is broken and has entanglement points.
