Three miles of genuinely pink beach, the colour comes from crushed red foraminifera shell mixed into white sand, backed by pastel colonial cottages, golf carts instead of cars, and one of the best small-island restaurant scenes in the Caribbean. Dunmore Town is one of the oldest settlements in the Bahamas, founded by Loyalists in the 1780s, and was briefly the country's second city on pineapple and sugar exports. The Devil's Backbone reef offshore has wrecked ships since the 17th century and is still the reason a pilot is standard practice. Anchorage: Sheltered harbour anchorage and marinas on the bay side; the pink beach is on the Atlantic side and exposed. The Devil's Backbone reef approach is notorious, take a local pilot. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
