A naturally heart-shaped coral bommie sitting in the middle of Hardy Reef, perfectly proportioned, roughly 17m across, and completely accidental. Protected from swimmers, so it exists purely as an aerial image, and it has become the single most-used photograph in Australian tourism. Discovered by a pilot in 1975. Its protection status means nobody has ever snorkelled it. A viewing platform on a neighbouring reef was added so visitors could see it from sea level without touching it, a useful reminder that some hotspots are look-only. Anchorage: Hardy Reef has moorings and a pontoon; the heart itself is viewable only from the air. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
