The world's first purpose-built aircraft carrier lying on her port side in 53m, 180m long, hull plates, gun mounts and the vast flight deck edge. Big pelagics and often reef sharks. Almost nobody has dived it; the window is narrow and the depth serious. Sunk on 9 April 1942 by 45 Japanese dive bombers off Ceylon during the Indian Ocean Raid, with the loss of 307 men. She had no aircraft aboard and no fighter cover. Only rediscovered and dived from the mid-2000s. Anchorage: Offshore, exposed; Batticaloa/Trincomalee access. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
