Britain's most-dived wreck, a 134m American Liberty ship broken open along her length so light floods the holds, with the bow section largely intact. Conger eels, pollack, ballan wrasse and dense plumose anemones. Torpedoed by U-1195 in March 1945, weeks before the war in Europe ended, and beached in Whitsand Bay where she settled. One of 2,710 Liberty ships built in the US on an average of 42 days each, the industrial effort that won the Atlantic. Anchorage: Plymouth Sound is a major all-weather harbour; Whitsand Bay is exposed to southerlies. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
