Atoll, barrier and fringing reef all in one small group, plus the volcanic pinnacles off Una Una where barracuda and trevally stack up in numbers people compare to Komodo. Inland, brackish lakes hold stingless jellyfish you can swim among, the same phenomenon as Palau with none of the crowd. The Gulf of Tomini sits right on the equator and is one of the few Indonesian seas with almost no swell, which made the Togeans a Bajau sea-nomad stronghold. Dynamite fishing did serious damage here in the 1990s; the local marine park and village patrols are the reason the reefs came back. Anchorage: Sheltered water throughout the group, with anchorages off Kadidiri and Wakai; the gulf is one of the calmest cruising grounds in Indonesia. Hazards: Very remote; the nearest hyperbaric chamber is a long way off.
