Blinding white volcanic rock formations rising from water so clear the boat's shadow is sharp on the bottom at 15m, arches, caves and pinnacles you tender and swim through. Milos also has Sarakiniko's lunar white rock shelf and Papafragas' slot canyons. Kleftiko means 'thieves' place', it was a pirate hideout, and the caves were used to hide ships. Milos supplied obsidian across the Neolithic Mediterranean and later mined sulphur and bentonite; the Venus de Milo was found here in 1820. Anchorage: Kleftiko is fully exposed to the west and unusable in a meltemi swell. Adamas and Provatas offer shelter. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
