A 62-metre transport ship sitting on the shoal at around 32m, intact enough to swim the length of her deck, with the cold clear Baltic water that makes wreck photography here better than the latitude suggests. More than 500 ships went down in Estonian waters in the twentieth century alone, and the brackish Baltic preserves them. The same water that makes Estonian wrecks so intact also makes them archaeology, many are protected, and nothing is lifted. Anchorage: Lehtma and Kärdla on Hiiumaa are the shelter; this coast is exposed and shoal-strewn. Hazards: Cold water, an offshore shoal with no shelter, and a short weather window. Drysuit diving from a hard boat.
