Croatia's answer to Capri, and arguably better, between late morning and midday, light enters through a submerged side opening and floods the whole 24m-wide chamber silver-blue, so boats appear to float on liquid light. Combine with the Green Cave on Ravnik and the Stiniva cove on Vis in one day. The natural entrance was too small for boats until 1884, when the artificial opening was cut to allow tourist access after a Viennese naturalist publicised the cave. Vis itself was a closed Yugoslav military island until 1989, which is why this whole archipelago stayed undeveloped and is now the best cruising in the Adriatic. Anchorage: Anchor off Biševo (Mezuporat cove); transfer to a small licensed boat for entry. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
