The tallest sea cliffs in the world, 1,010m from waterline to summit at Umilehi Point, with Hawaii's highest waterfall, Oloʻupena (900m), falling straight into the sea. Almost nobody sees this from the water. It is arguably the most spectacular coast in the Pacific and it has essentially no visitors. The Kalaupapa peninsula below the cliffs was Hawaii's forced leprosy settlement from 1866 to 1969, isolated by the cliffs themselves; Saint Damien and Saint Marianne Cope served there. It is now a National Historical Park, and a small number of former patients' descendants and residents remain, access ashore is strictly controlled. Anchorage: No sheltered anchorage, this coast is fully exposed to north swell and approachable only in flat summer conditions. Expedition-style day visit. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
