Vertical limestone karsts standing in shallow emerald water, with 'hongs', collapsed cave systems forming hidden interior lagoons you paddle into through low tunnels at the right tide, emerging in a jungle amphitheatre open to the sky. Ko Tapu, the needle from 'The Man with the Golden Gun', and the Muslim stilt village of Ko Panyi. Declared a national park in 1981. The bay's karsts are the same limestone formation as Hạ Long and Krabi. The 1974 Bond film made Ko Tapu globally famous and the bay has been managing the consequences ever since; nearby Maya Bay was closed entirely in 2018 to let its reef recover, a landmark decision in Asian tourism management. Anchorage: Very sheltered bay, one of the best monsoon-season cruising grounds in Thailand. Phuket marinas as a base. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
