A very large, very sheltered bay with a village ashore, and immediately east a nature reserve of small islets where anchoring is banned outright and the reef is what that protection produces. Le Marin's mangrove bay made it a natural hurricane hole, then a charter base, and now the densest concentration of charter yachts in the Caribbean. The Sainte-Anne islets were fenced off from anchoring as the fleet grew. Anchorage: The most popular anchorage in Martinique, protected by the south-east peninsula, and a short hop from Le Marin, the biggest charter base in the Caribbean. Expect several hundred boats in high season and set your anchor accordingly. Hazards: Crowded holding ground in season, and a 300m no-anchor circle round each reserve islet.
