A 134m German freighter sitting upright and largely intact, her holds, masts and superstructure all readable, with the deck at around 40m and the sand at 55m. Around Weh, Batee Tokong and the Canyon add volcanic pinnacles with big pelagics and the occasional whale shark. The Sophie Rickmers was scuttled by her own crew at Sabang in 1940 to keep her out of Allied hands. Sabang itself was a major coaling station on the route to the Dutch East Indies, and Weh's diving was only rebuilt after the 2004 tsunami, which the island survived better than the Aceh mainland. Anchorage: Sabang Bay is the northernmost harbour in Indonesia and a natural first or last stop on a Malacca Strait passage. Hazards: A 55m wreck with penetration risk and current. This is a technical dive, not a sightseeing one.
