One of the largest wrecks in the Caribbean and part of it breaks the surface, snorkellers get as much as divers. 400ft of freighter lying on her port side, big open holds full of light, coated in tube sponge and coral, with green moray and huge schools of silversides. A brand-new German cargo ship caught in Aruba when the Netherlands fell to Germany in May 1940. Ordered to surrender by Dutch marines, the captain asked for time, scuttled her overnight by opening the seacocks and setting off explosions, then rowed his crew ashore to internment. She has been called the Ghost Ship ever since. Anchorage: Anchor off Malmok in sand in 6-10m, a classic Aruba day stop. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
