Stromboli, Sciara del Fuoco night anchorage
MouillageSans permisPas de bouées d'amarrage
The finest thing you can watch from a boat anywhere in the Mediterranean, Stromboli erupts every 10-20 minutes, and glowing lava bombs roll down the Sciara del Fuoco, a 700m scree slope, straight into the sea, hissing. You watch from the water in the dark with nothing between you and it. Stromboli has been in continuous eruption for at least 2,000 years, the 'Lighthouse of the Mediterranean' that guided ancient sailors. Its mild, rhythmic explosions gave geology the term 'Strombolian eruption'. Major paroxysms in 2019 and 2024 show it can turn serious; respect exclusion zones. Anchorage: Ginostra and Scari offer marginal anchoring; the volcano-watching is done drifting offshore. No shelter, this is a settled-weather-only stop. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
