The largest biomass migration on earth. Billions of sardines move north in shoals 15km long, and everything follows, thousands of common dolphins herding the shoals, Bryde's whales lunging through them, bronze whaler and dusky sharks, and Cape gannets dive-bombing from 30m up at 100km/h. Bait balls form and vanish in seconds. Driven by a cold-water counter-current up the KwaZulu-Natal coast. Filmed for 'Blue Planet' and 'Africa'; the run has become less predictable in recent years, which conservationists link to warming inshore water, see it while it still happens. Anchorage: No sheltered anchorage, this is a launch-through-surf RIB operation from the beach. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
