A 230ft freighter lying on her port side right on the edge of the Grand Bahama wall, so you swim the length of the hull with 600m of blue-black dropping away beside you. Black coral on the plates, huge green morays, spotted eagle rays and reef sharks. Penetrable bridge and engine room. A cement-hauling freighter whose Norwegian captain, Theophilus Galanopoulos, suggested sinking her as a reef when she was retired in 1982 rather than scrapping her, the crew named it after him. One of the earliest deliberate artificial-reef sinkings in the Caribbean and still one of the best. Anchorage: Freeport / Port Lucaya marinas; the wreck is a short run offshore. Hazards: Sits on the lip of a 600m wall, easy to drift off into deep water. Watch your depth.
