A pinnacle rising to 5m below the surface covered in soft coral and swarmed by fusiliers, batfish and trevally, with barracuda holding in the current above. Nearby Labas is a maze of granite swim-throughs and small caves, and Renggis, off the beach, has resident turtles and blacktips. Tioman was a landmark on the Arab and Chinese trade route to the Malacca Strait, named on Chinese charts a thousand years ago as a watering stop. Its reefs became a marine park in 1994 and the island still runs on boats, there is no road round it. Anchorage: Tioman's west coast has good anchorages and a duty-free island economy; the east coast is exposed. Hazards: Current over the pinnacle, and Labas is a set of swim-throughs and short caves.
