Untouched fringing reef within minutes of a city, with the Seven Sisters and Five Corals reef systems, the intact Iona wreck sitting shallow enough to snorkel, barracuda schools and coral groupers. Sites here get a fraction of the traffic of anywhere in Egypt. Yanbu has been a Red Sea port for 2,500 years and was the base from which T. E. Lawrence and Faisal's forces launched the Arab Revolt campaign north in 1917. The reefs immediately offshore were never commercially dived, so the coral has no diver damage at all. Anchorage: Yanbu marina and harbour; the reefs are a short run. Hazards: Summer heat; check current entry and diving regulations for the Kingdom.
