Twenty or more tiger sharks, some over 4m, circling in daylight at 15m, with no cage and no chumming trail, just habituated animals at the harbour's fish-cleaning outflow. Also oceanic mantas, thresher sharks and hammerheads at nearby sites, plus the only place in the Maldives with a genuine deep-ocean drop-off from shore. A single island atoll sitting alone on the equator with 2,000m of ocean on all sides. The tiger sharks came for fishermen's offcuts; local divers built a globally significant shark-tourism industry on it within a decade, and the island now polices its own shark protection fiercely. Anchorage: Fuvahmulah harbour, the only harbour in the southern Maldives; the site is minutes away. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
