A beach that runs for eleven miles with pink sand and no buildings, and inside the lagoon one of the largest magnificent frigatebird colonies in the world, thousands of birds, visited by small boat with a local guide. Barbuda was leased in its entirety by the Codrington family for two centuries and its land is still held communally, which is why it was never developed. Hurricane Irma destroyed almost every structure on the island in 2017 and the whole population was evacuated. Anchorage: Anchor in Low Bay off the eleven-mile beach, or on the south coast east of Palmetto Point. To reach Codrington you land the dinghy, drag it over the sand bar and cross the lagoon, there is no channel for a keel boat. Hazards: Reef-strewn approaches that demand daylight and eyeball navigation, no services of any kind, and only 1-2m at the lagoon entrance so the lagoon itself is dinghy work.
