A salt pond that crusts white in the dry season, cactus and century plants on the headland, cliffs dropping into deep blue at Ram Head, and reef at both ends of the bay. The salt ponds of St John were worked for salt into the 20th century, a right islanders held under Danish law. The whole south-east is now national park. Anchorage: Park moorings in a sandy bay on St John's dry south-east coast, with a salt pond behind the beach and the Ram Head trail running out along the cliffs. One of the quietest moorings in the park. Hazards: The Ram Head trail is exposed, hot and unshaded, go early or late with water.
