A mound of ballast stones in 5m of water marking a Dutch-built Spanish galleon lost in 1733, with replica cannons and an anchor placed for divers, and the original wreck scatter around it. Turtles graze the seagrass; the whole thing is snorkellable. Part of the 1733 Spanish treasure fleet, wrecked by a hurricane on 15 July 1733 while carrying Mexican silver. Twenty-one ships of the fleet went down along the Keys; Spanish salvors recovered most of the treasure at the time. Florida made San Pedro its second Underwater Archaeological Preserve in 1989. Anchorage: Mooring buoys in Hawk Channel; anchor off Indian Key. Hazards: Protected archaeological site; removing anything is a felony.
