Trollfjord & the Lofoten anchorages
AncoraggioNessun permessoNessuna boa di ormeggio
You turn through a 100m gap and the world closes in, sheer granite 1,000m straight up on both sides, waterfalls dropping the full height, sea eagles overhead. In summer the sun never sets; in winter the aurora fires above the same walls. Lofoten's fishing villages, Reine, Hamnøy, Nusfjord, are the best-looking working harbours anywhere. The 1890 Battle of Trollfjord, fishermen in open boats physically blocking steam trawlers from the herring, is a founding story of Norwegian labour history and the subject of the novel 'The Last Viking'. The cod fishery here has run continuously for over a thousand years; the drying racks are still in use. Anchorage: A 2km fjord only 100m wide at its mouth with 1,000m walls. Deep water to the sides; limited holding. Reine, Svolvær and Henningsvær are the harbours. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
