The S/Y SYL was originally built in 2003 at a make-shift shipyard that was set up during the construction of Port Tarraco by the developer, Luis Garcia-Cereceda. Built in aluminium to a design by the world renowned German Frers of Buenos Aires and to Lloyds Class, the S/Y SYL is 44 metres in length overall.

Following the passing of the owner in 2010 his assets passed to his two daughters who, very unfortunately had certain disagreements about the distribution of wealth and, the control that was to be exercised over same.

Subsequently, and over a period of almost 15 years, every offer and attempt to purchase the S/Y SYL at ever decreasing amounts of money as the years passed by, were blocked by way of a court process that lasted several years in each case.

It should be noted that at the time of our first contact with the family in 2010, the younger of the two sisters was already under the judges tutela as it was considered that she was unable to run her own personal affairs in a proper and responsible manner.

Following each potential sale of the yacht having systematically been challenged by one of the sisters, and as a consequence having been passed through eight different courts in Spain since 2010, it was finally handed to the Spanish Supreme Courts in Madrid and their decision is now final without there being any possibility of any further claims or interference in the sales process being admitted by any of the heirs.

During the process, the S/Y SYL was retained on her berth in Port Tarraco and was not allowed to be moved at any time, not even for general maintenance purposes. The original build captain, who remains onboard to this day, was retained in the employment of the family. The yacht has been kept in Lloyds Laid Up Class for the duration with annual inspections taking place, including underwater hull inspections by divers. The main engines and generators were winterised and have not been started and run for the majority of the time that the yacht has remained on her berth. It is considered that all the machinery remains in good running order but, that a full and thorough service should be carried out before any attempt in firing them up is made under the supervision of the manufacturer’s official representatives.

All other systems on board the S/Y SYL will need very close examination and attention due to the time that none of the equipment has been put into function. Most of the yacht is operated by sophisticated hydraulic systems which, will need complete overhauling. The teak decks will need a great deal of attention if not, replacing. The mast would surely need to be un-stepped and serviced, as would all the standing rigging, the winches and running rigging, as well as the sails.

Putting the yacht back into commission, or at very least into a serviceable condition in order that it be moved under its own bottom to a more suitable shipyard facility will doubtless be an expensive exercise. Quotations were prepared by MB92 of Barcelona and Pendennis in Vilanova, detailing what is considered to be the most important list of works that would be required. These quotations have been updated in the past months and can be made available upon the signing of an NDA with any possible buyer who shows intentions of taking his interest further.

The courts surveyors have placed a value of € 3.050,000 on the yacht as she stands. However, this is a guideline and by no means a “reserve price” that is t be applied in the case of a possible purchase. The courts remain open to any and all offers and, will allow in-water surveys and inspections to take place by prior appointment through our offices.

Recent hull soundings apparently show the hull to be in very good order although, it was not possible to take any accurate readings around the tanks.
