Fjord 440 Open Video Review: A Bench That Flips and a TV in the T-Top
By the YachtWay editorial deskUpdated October 2026Video walkthrough8 min read
The Fjord 440 Open is a 45 ft dayboat built around its cockpit. The aft bench flips electrically from facing the water to facing forward, an optional 55 in TV drops from the T-top, and the helm seats were designed first, with the rest of the cockpit around them. We walked the boat at its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival. Below deck there is a forward cabin, a full-beam aft cabin, a galley and a head with a separate shower.
A dayboat designed from the helm seats out
We started on the swim platform, which lowers hydraulically and hides two storage lockers in the deck. Behind it, the aft bench faces the water, then flips forward at the push of a button. The project manager told us they designed the helm seats first and the galley behind them, and the same angle carries through the cockpit. Below deck, there is no raw fibreglass visible anywhere.
What stood out on board
- An aft bench that flipsFace the water at anchor, then push a button and it becomes a forward-facing bench. Hinges on both sides keep it solid.
- A TV in the T-topAn optional 55 in TV folds down from the hardtop, so the aft bench becomes a seat for a movie or a match.
- Helm seats designed firstFjord built the cockpit around the helm seats. The galley follows their angle, and the TV stops just short of the backrest.
- A hydraulic swim platformSteps fold out as it lowers, and two wet lockers in the deck hold snorkel gear and long fins.
- Electric side curtainsThey drop from the T-top to shade the dining area, and pins stop them swinging into the walkway.
- A full-beam aft cabinA bed close to king size, a lounge seat and a cutout under the helm seat where you can stand up to change.

Swim platform and aft bench
The swim platform lowers hydraulically, and steps fold out as it goes down. Behind it, the aft bench faces the water. Push a button and it lifts into a forward-facing bench, solid enough to lean your full weight on.
- Wet lockers. Two lockers in the deck for snorkel gear and long fins.
- Bench options.Leave it out, fit a manual version or go electric like this one.
- TV.An optional 55 in TV folds down from the hardtop.
- Shower.A pull-out wand with hot and cold water, under a lid.
- Passerelle locker.Skip the passerelle and it holds the shade poles instead.
- Side gates.Lock in for kids and pets, with rubber mounts against rattles.
Cockpit dining and summer kitchen
The cockpit tables drop electrically and extend to seat eight. Move the cushions and the seats face forward for cruising.
- Fridges.Dometic fridges on both sides of the aft sunbed.
- Side curtains.Electric, with pins that stop them swinging into the walkway.
- Summer kitchen.A sink and two-burner cooktop under a lid, or a Kenyon grill instead.
- Extra fridge.A pull-out fridge below the prep counter.
- Safety.Fuel cut-off and a foam fire system for the engine room.
Helm
The windshield now runs all the way up to the hardtop, with a small rally-style opening for fresh air. Fjord's project manager told us they designed the helm seats first and the rest of the cockpit around them.
- Screens. Two 19 in Garmin displays with an EmpirBus system styled for Fjord.
- 360 3D view.Cameras show the dock and the anchor coming out.
- Docking.Joystick and a Side-Power bow thruster.
- VHF.A newer Garmin VHF that sounds like a phone call.
- Companion seat.A grab rail, cup holders and a small storage box.
Side decks and bow
Fender lockers sit on both sides, with fold-down steps that hold shut with magnets. A handle runs along the outside so you can hold on without smudging the windshield.
- Bow sunbed. The backrest goes from upright to flat.
- Audio.Speakers and a rocker control at the bow.
- Cleats.Pop-up cleats with a metal strip so lines do not chafe.
- Anchoring.Windlass under a lid, watched on the 360 camera.
Galley and forward cabin
There is plenty of headroom at the foot of the stairs, and no raw fibreglass anywhere. Fjord offers four lower deck layouts, from a longer galley to an extra seating area.
Galley
- Counters.A thin stone-look top on custom metal hardware.
- Breaker panel.Generator and battery switches behind one door.
- Floors.Real hardwood, with lines that follow the deck caulking.
Forward cabin
- Queen plus bed.Curved leather-look panels around it.
- Wireless chargers.Hidden under the Fjord logo on both sides.
- Light and air.Hull windows at water level and opening portholes.
- Privacy.Pocket doors close it off from the galley.
Head and aft cabin
The head has a separate shower behind a door, so the rest stays dry. Aft, under the cockpit, there is a full-beam guest cabin with a bed close to king size.
Head
- Shower.Rain shower and a handheld wand.
- Light.A side window, a porthole and a bigger window below.
- Details.L-shaped mirrors, storage and a power socket.
Aft cabin
- Bed.Close to a king, sleeps two adults.
- Standing room.A cutout under the helm seat lets a 6 ft 1 in adult stand up.
- Seating.A deep lounge seat with leather-look trim.
- Comfort.Wireless charger, AC controls, reading lights and curtains.
The 440 Open shows how much thinking went into Fjord's new dayboat. The flipping aft bench, the optional TV and the electric side curtains make the cockpit work at anchor and under way. The helm seats are a big step up from the previous model, and below deck there is no raw fibreglass in sight. Two proper cabins and a separate shower make a weekend on board realistic. We did not sea trial this boat, so we cannot speak to the ride yet.
