Fjord 490 Sport Video Review: Triple V12s and 44 Knots (51 mph)

By the YachtWay editorial deskUpdated October 2026Video walkthrough8 min read

The Fjord 490 Sport is a 50 ft dayboat with triple Mercury 600 V12 outboards. We walked her in Miami and then took her out for a run with five people on board. She has electric side terraces, a cockpit table that splits in two, a TV that drops from the hardtop and a split galley. Below there is a VIP cabin forward, a full-beam aft cabin with a king bed and two heads with separate showers. On our run she reached about 44 knots (51 mph).

A big dayboat with sports car pace

We started at the stern, where three Mercury 600 V12s sit behind angled seats that face the water. The side terraces fold down electrically, the hardtop spans the full beam and an electric shade reaches almost to the end of the sunbed. The deck is flush all the way to the bow, with no steps to trip on. Then we went below and found two real cabins and two heads.

What stood out on board

  • About 44 knots on our sea trial
With five people on board off Miami, she reached 50.6 to 51 mph and turned at full lock with no skidding.
  • Electric side terraces
Push a button and the sides fold down to widen the cockpit lounge.
  • A TV in the hardtop
It drops from the ceiling at the push of a button, with Starlink on board for streaming.
  • A table in two halves
Each half of the cockpit table rises or drops on its own, and both extend for dinner.
  • Two heads with separate showers
Rare on a 49-footer. One serves the VIP cabin, the other the full-beam aft cabin.
  • Winches in the cleats
The aft cleats hide electric winches, run from a control next to them.

Sea trial off Miami

At the helm on our sea trial off Miami. 23:10

We ran the 490 Sport with five people on board. The large windshield keeps the wind off, and the triple V12s never feel short of torque.

  • Idle.
About 8 knots (9 mph) on 11.9 gallons an hour combined.
  • Mid range.
33 to 34 knots (38 to 39 mph) with little wind at the helm.
  • Turning.
Full lock at speed with no skidding.
  • Top speed.
About 44 knots (50.6 to 51 mph), with swimmers ahead cutting the run short.
The verdict

The 490 Sport combines a lot of pace with a lot of comfort. On our run she reached about 44 knots (51 mph) with five aboard and turned hard without skidding. The side terraces, the drop-down TV, the split table and galley make the cockpit work for a crowd. Below, a VIP cabin, a full-beam aft cabin with a king bed and two heads with separate showers make weekends easy. With a Seakeeper and Starlink on board, she is set up for long days out.
