A curved sand beach with nothing built on it, turtles in the shallows, goats on the headland, and, over the hill, the pelican-and-superyacht spectacle of Gustavia, which this bay is the antidote to. St Barths was Swedish for nearly a century, which is why the capital is called Gustavia and the harbour is a free port. Colombier's beach was Rockefeller's, his house stands above the bay and the path down is still the only land route. Anchorage: The only beach anchorage on St Barths with moorings, and they are free. Reachable only by boat or a half-hour walk, which is exactly why cruisers rate it above anything in Gustavia. Hazards: No anchoring, it is moorings only inside the marine park. Winter ground swell can make the bay untenable.
