A working Bahamian settlement rather than a resort, the mail boat coming in, the bakery, the blowholes on the windward shore firing spray, and the best laundry in the Bahamas, which sounds like a joke until you have been cruising a month. Black Point is the second-largest settlement in the Exumas and was a straw-plaiting town, work still done here. It has stayed a town rather than a resort, which is exactly why the cruising fleet loves it. Anchorage: A big, easy, sandy bay off the friendliest settlement in the Exumas, laundry, bread, conch salad, and a mail boat. Cruisers stop here for a week when they meant to stay a night. Hazards: Grass patches make holding patchy, set on sand. Exposed if the wind goes west.
