A 400m limestone monolith rising straight out of the sea with nothing around it, catching the last light while the sun sets beside it. This is the Ibiza sunset that isn't a beach club, you anchor off, swim, and watch the rock go from white to orange to black silhouette. Es Vedrà is soaked in myth, claimed as Homer's island of the sirens, a site of alleged magnetic anomalies and UFO sightings, and the meditation retreat of the 19th-century Carmelite priest Francesc Palau. It is a strict nature reserve protecting Eleonora's falcons and the endemic Ibiza wall lizard. Anchorage: Day anchorage off Cala d'Hort in sand, exposed to the south-west. The rock itself is a nature reserve; landing prohibited. Hazards: The rock itself is a nature reserve; landing prohibited.
