A high rocky cay with a beach on its lee, a sea cave big enough to take a tender into, reef fish that have never been fished, and at night more stars than most people have seen, there is no light within forty miles. The Jumentos and Ragged Islands are the emptiest inhabited chain in the Bahamas, one settlement, Duncan Town, at the far southern end. Hurricane Irma emptied even that in 2017 and the island has been slowly repopulating since. Anchorage: Two good anchorages on the west side, sand and clear water, and a cave in the cliff at the north end you can take the dinghy into. This is the prettiest single cay in the Jumentos and there is usually nobody in it. Hazards: No facilities of any kind, charts that are less accurate than the rest of the Bahamas, and no shelter from a west quadrant blow. Go in settled weather and watch for fronts.
