Steep green hills with nothing on them, the Channel's whole length of sail traffic passing in the distance, and water clear enough at anchor to see your chain lying on the sand. Peter Island has been a copra estate, a Norwegian-owned resort and a hurricane casualty. The undeveloped bulk of it is the reason the western anchorages stay quiet. Anchorage: Most of Peter Island is undeveloped and the quiet end of Great Harbour is one of the calmest anchorages in the BVI, sheltered, deep, clear enough to swim straight off the boat, and away from the resort end entirely. Hazards: Deep in places, so plan your scope; katabatic gusts come off the hills at night.
